We helped load some of the larger parts removed from Engine # 11 with our military M-816 wrecker/crane when she departed (on lowboys) for the Whitewater RR Museum in Indiana. I think the headlight and other parts had been already stolen. At least most of the engine was saved and is still there. I dont know where the trafffic circle stop light went----but I bought both of the battery operated portable stop lights at a city auction about 1975. These were towed behind a Fairborn Police car for use on Sundays during the "after-church traffic jam." This was in the early 50s, and they were in city use for several years. They used 6 volt car batteries for power. I had one I repaired in my basement operating on a transformer for years.

I was wondering if anyone knows what happened to the old traffic light that was in the center of town (where the flag pole is now)? I had heard that it was given to a museum, is this true? I also found a recent picture of the old steam loco that the cement plant used to decorate for Christmas. http://parkengines.railfan.net/IN/

Thank you, Kathi! Your opinion means a lot to me Not sure if you've seen my post on your Facebook Wall ... I kinda jokingly challenged you to a Blog-Off! Maybe we could revive an old Fairborn rivalry, btwn Baker and Park Hills? See you can get the most views per post?
Flights of Fancy from a Former Fairborn Femme ;) « Result #8 on Nov 7, 2009, 4:38pm »
Notice that I did not entitle this "Flights of Fancy from a Former Fairborn Femme Fatale" although my photo may lead you to believe otherwise (my youngest daughter, Katie (age 25), says, "Mom, this photo scares me!"
OK, because I've had problems w/blogging on eFairborn due to being somewhat technically-challenged AND (to be completely honest) impatient w/the process , THIS IS MY FIRST OFFICIAL BLOG ... TA DA!!! ... dedicated to my dear, "old" Park Hills classmate (class of 1972): Mr. eFairborn himself, Jeff Jones. So sorry, Jeff, that it took me this long to follow through on my promise to you ... Thank you for your patience!
TWO THINGS: 1) a cool, fun, sweet Web site that I just found out about; and, 2) a story about a true American character ...
1) MyParentsWereAwesome.com ... This young blogger has been all over the news lately because of his site that honors parents "before they were parents." He said he created it because there's a lot of "snarky, cynical stuff on the internet, and I wanted to create something sweet." A lot of people from all over the country are now posting old photos of their parents, with just first names, as a way to show just how cool, handsome, beautiful, romantic and fun their parents were ... before they became known as "Mom & Dad."
I'm thinkin' and a'hopin' this is gonna motivate me -- as in kick my big, old booty into gear! I have bags and bags and bags of old photos in the basement, and I've been wanting to organize them into photo albums and frames FOREVER! Not sayin' this is gonna happen next week, two weeks from now, or before Christmas, I'm just sayin' ... that I want to post some old photos of my parents (first grad class of Fairborn High School, 1954), myself, my husband (Craig Hyser), siblings, siblings-in-law, other special family members, and former Park Hills classmates (GO VIKES!) on the eFairborn site.
2) We've all known our share of characters ... You know the ones -- like the ones we went to school with?
The guy I'm talkin' about today lives north of us in Duluth, MN (Craig and I live in St. Paul). This summer, Dennis Anderson (age 62) was charged w/DWI and his vehicle was impounded. You may already know Anderson's story ... that he tried to drive home from his favorite bar, with a blood-alcohol level of 0.29 (three times the legal limit of 0.08!!!). He crashed into one of the bar's parked cars and was arrested. To his credit, Anderson pleaded guilty to DWI and was sentenced to two years' probation.
His impounded vehicle recently sold on eBay for more than $10,000!!! This you've gotta see ...
Somebody's getting themselves a really nice Lounge Mobile!!! (It is, however, NOT a La-Z-Boy as it was originally advertised. Too bad, because before La-Z-Boy contacted eBay about the mistake and the ad was pulled, the Lounge Mobile was bringing in a bid of more than $43,000!!!)
This morning in our daily paper, I read the story about how Anderson will not be stopped from havin' his fun ... God bless him! (Here's a big old "smooch" for Dennis and others like him ... ) Anderson's already drawn up plans for his next "ride," and it will incorporate a love seat and snowmobile undercarriage. Anderson said, "I'll have it ready to rock and roll at Brainard (MN) next year," referring to the gathering of oddball vehicles in the campgrounds at Brainard International Raceway. "Mr. Cool" added, "You've got to have some fun."
I totally agree!!! Three cheers to Dennis Anderson -- my new hero! -- and all the other characters who make life more interesting.
HEY, VALERIE (MURRAY) ...Wouldn't you love to see Dennis and his next contraption at Sturgis next year?! Somebody do me a favor and poke Val about this one! (I'll bet $$$ she's posted bail for someone like Dennis. )
