Our family recently visited the Oakes Quarry Park off of E. Xenia (235) and found it to be an intriguing place to take a walk. We felt like we were in a Jurassic Park movie It is a site for students of geology but also open to the public. The paths are rocky but pretty easy to navigate, there are spoil piles where you can search for a fossilized souvenir. We found a rock there with a sea-like looking critter - what we think is maybe a trilobite....well, some sort of fossil anyway. No benches to sit and rest, but there are always rocks for that, right? . No shade either. But, still a new and interesting place to wander. Hubby and I got into an thought-provoking evolution discussion

It has potential to be a good community park. I am alone with my dogs most of the time so the isolation of the park (no visibility from 235) and the restriction on driving your car further inside made me a little uneasy. Here's an idea! Fairborn needs a Dog Park. I think if a couple of acres at Oakes Quarry could be fenced and designated a Dog Park, it would bring a lot of people to the area, making it safer. There is currently no park in Fairborn that allows unleashed dogs.
